Do you love the outdoors? Then you’re definitely going to want to hike while in Oxnard. Ventura County, which includes Oxnard, is home to some of the best hiking trails in the state. Keep reading to discover our top three choices for a day hike near Oxnard.
Oxnard is the perfect jumping-off point to explore the stunning Channel Islands. Two of the Channel Islands, Anacapa Island and San Nicolas Island, are officially located in Ventura County. Anacapa is the closest to the harbor in Oxnard, just 12 miles or 1 hour by boat. While visiting Channel Islands National Park, hiking to Inspiration Point is a must. Located on the east part of the island, the Inspiration Point hike has a surreal view across the chain of islands to the west and the craggy strait between East and Middle Anacapa.
Just south of Oxnard lies Point Mugu State Park’s La Jolla Canyon. La Jolla Canyon boasts a multitude of different loops and trails, our personal favourite being the Ray Miller Trail. This six-mile round trip hike allows visitors to see the best of what the park has to offer: lots of wildflowers, panoramic canyon views, and unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean.
Boney Mountain Overlook is another must-hike trail in Ventura County. Just over 20 minutes by car from the Best Western Oxnard Inn, this scenic hike provides unparalleled views of the surrounding mountains. One part of the hike passes by a waterfall and there are certain viewpoints where you can see all the way to the ocean. Be warned though, the Boney Mountain Overlook Trail is rated as difficult and is just over 9 miles long. Although the hike itself isn’t too strenuous, it can take anywhere between four and six hours so be sure to bring plenty of water!
If you plan on hiking in Ventura County during your visit, then you want to book a room at the Best Western Oxnard Inn. Only a short drive from the most beautiful hiking trails in California, we combine excellent service and top-notch amenities with an unbelievable location.
